The film was projected to make between $25 million and $35 million domestically. It finished Sunday with an estimated $31 million in North America after opening on $13 million on its first day. Its worldwide opening reached $51.1 million across 3,575 theatres.

Still on Friday, A24’s You Can See Everything delivered a surprising result. The documentary earned $15 million from only 855 theatres. Its domestic total was roughly 51% less than Street Fighter’s, despite its much smaller release. It also exceeded early projections of $7 – $8 million.

The film became the biggest documentary opening since 2013’s One Direction: This Is Us. It also recorded the second-largest opening for a non-concert documentary, behind Fahrenheit 9/11. Its $15 million total surpassed Disney’s Chimpanzee, which opened to $10.7 million. It also more than doubled Melania’s $7.1 million, the highest-earning documentary released this year.

The documentary also made headlines for its Rotten Tomatoes score. It briefly reached 100% with more than 80 reviews before falling to 99%.

The studio said both filmmakers would work together to protect Reeves’ vision. Soderbergh also praised the original Batman film and promised to match its existing footage.

The news raised concerns among fans about possible changes to the finished film. Some compared the situation to Justice League, when Joss Whedon replaced Zack Snyder. Reeves responded on Friday through X, making clear he was not leaving the project.

James Gunn also reassured fans on Threads by saying “Matt is still the director of The Batman 2 and always will be.”

The sequel remains scheduled for release on February 18, 2028.
